Angolan official hands over books to Portuguese university to promote literature

Secretary General of the Angolan Writers Association (UEA) Antonio do Carmo Neto has handed over six anthologies by Angolan writers to the Faculty of Letters of the Lisbon University in Portugal as part of the country's efforts to promote its literature in European countries, the official news agency Angop reported on Wednesday.

Carmo Neto said the hand-over of the Angolan books, written in Portuguese but all translated into English, French, Arabic and Germany, to the Portuguese university was aimed at internationalizing Angolan literature and encouraging more Angolan writers to study in European countries, particularly in Portugal.

The Faculty of Letters of the Lisbon University is expected to hold a seminar on Angolan literature in the second semester of this year to review the latest development of Angolan literature, while the next book by Angolan writer Roderick Nehone will be released at the same institute to facilitate the circulation, distribution and sale of books by Angolan authors in the European Union, particularly in Portugal, Angop said.

The Angolan Writers Association was proclaimed on December 10, 1975, and its first chairman was the first and late Angolan President Agostinho Neto. Endi
