Germany's benchmark DAX index declines

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Tuesday declined slightly by 0.71 percent and closed at 11,500.38 points.

Although the European Central Bank started its quantitative easing program on Monday, which may help boost the euro area economy, investors are still worried about the Greek debt issue, according to analysts.

Infineon Technologies AG, a semiconductor producer, topped the list of risers with a 2.03 percent increase. Munchener Rueck AG, a reinsurance company, advanced by 0.53 percent. Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, a health care company rose by 0.46 percent. Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. added 0.4 percent and Merck KGaA, a chemical and pharmaceutical company went up by 0.23 percent.

The utilities company RWE AG St lost 2.77 percent. Deutsche Telekom AG dropped by 2.44 percent. HeidelbergCement AG lost 1.92 percent. Daimler AG slipped by 1.6 percent and adidas AG went down by 1.47 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.88 billion euros (around 4.19 billion U.S. dollars ). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 373.54 million euros. (1 euro = 1.08 U.S. dollars) Endit
