Gunmen abduct Syrian engineer in Nigeria: police

Xinhua, March 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The police in Nigeria on Tuesday confirmed the abduction of a Syrian engineer, Mah Nagor, by unknown gunmen in central north Nasarawa State on Monday.

Nagor was abducted on Monday at a site in Azara area of the state, Ismalia Numan, local police spokesperson told reporters in Lafia, the state capital.

He said the victim is a staff of Rims Construction Company handling the construction of rural roads in the area.

Numan said the gunmen stormed the site and shot sporadically to scare off workers before whisking away the expatriate to unknown destination.

He said detectives had been deployed on a search and rescue mission to free the engineer.

Numan assured that the police would work round the clock to ensure the release of Nagor.

The incident occurred barely two weeks after an American woman was abducted but later released by her captors in Kogi State. Endi
