Migrant workers protest to demand bonus payments in Dubai

Xinhua, March 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hundreds of migrant workers held a protest on Tuesday in Dubai, demanding bonus payments and triggering a minor traffic chaos, the official Dubai media governmental office said.

The protest started at around 9.30 a.m. local time near the Fountain Views, a popular tourist hotspot in the center of the Gulf Arab city.

Dubai traffic police and riot police units showed up in less than an hour to prevent the protest from escalating.

Local daily Gulf news reported the protesters were employees for a contractor which co-builds the real estate project Fountain Views, a residential complex near the the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa.

Demonstrations and strikes are forbidden by law in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Endit
