Iceland's president Olafur Ragnar Grimsson pays a visit to Lithuania and had a meeting with Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite here on Tuesday.

The two leaders talked about bilateral relations, cooperation in economy, security and defense spheres, according to office of Lithuania's president.

"This example (Iceland) for 25 years inspired Lithuania to know that we have not only friends who dare to support and help other nations, but also friends who supported and helped us for 25 years, because Iceland, in particular, encouraged Lithuania to seek membership in NATO and other international organizations," said Grybauskaite.

"We have been privileged throughout those years to enjoy bilateral success in many areas. There are prominent artists and representatives of your culture and they play a great role in modern Icelandic culture," said Grimsson.

"We have also developed a strong relationship through the people of our countries, people of Lithuania being in Iceland, Icelandic companies participating in the economy of Lithuania," he continued.

The meeting also reviewed Lithuanian-Icelandic cooperation in NATO and the implementation of decisions adopted at the Wales summit. The heads of the two states also discussed the situation in Ukraine.

Grimsson's visit lasts till Wednesday. Endit
