Jamaican gunman kills school warden

Xinhua, March 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

An unknown gunman shot and killed a school warden in front of stunned pupils in Jamaica on Monday.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Natalee Gayle, a female warden for the Kilsyth Primary School in central Jamaica.

Gayle was standing just outside the school when a gunman in a black vehicle approached and shot her. At least eight times of gun cracks were heard.

After being shot, the warden "ran onto the school's compound where she collapsed in front of the students," according reports from Jamaica Observer, a local media house.

It is reported the murder took place at about 8 a.m. local time when students were gathering for their morning worship. Classes in the school have thus been suspended.

The incident was a big shock to the local community.

"This act was even more dastardly as it was committed in front of the young and impressionable students who were gathering for morning worship before classes," parliamentarian Clarendon Richard Azan said in a press release.

He also urged residents to share information related to the brutality with security forces.

Local police said the vehicle reportedly involved in the shooting has been identified. However, the search is still under way. Endit
