Philippine gov't distributes 64 mln USD to bolster police capability

Xinhua, March 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Philippine government has released 2.83 billion pesos (64.14 million U.S. dollars) to bolster the capability of the 140,000-strong Philippine National Police (PNP), a senior government official said Monday.

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said the fund would cover appropriations for mobility, firearms, communication, investigation, ISO equipment, and infrastructure facilities of the PNP.

Of the 2.83 billion pesos' fund, almost half will be for the procurement of 218,790 firearms worth 1.04 billion pesos (23.57 million U.S. dollars).

This is followed closely by the purchase of 945 motor vehicles, which would amount to 944.5 million pesos (21.41 million U.S. dollars).

"Despite the challenges facing the PNP, the national government fully supports the police force in fulfilling their mandate to prevent crime and maintain peace and order. In doing so, we place value not only on the PNP as an organization but also on the service and sacrifice of our valiant and fearless policemen," Abad said. Endi
