Egypt reopens Rafah crossing with Gaza for 2 days

Xinhua, March 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Egypt on Monday reopened Rafah crossing point on the border with the Gaza Strip to hundreds of stranded Palestinians, a statement said.

The crossing will open on Monday and Tuesday in both directions to allow students, patients and holders of dual nationalities, said the statement by a Palestinian body in charge of crossings and borders, which belongs to the Gaza Ministry of Interior.

Last time Egypt reopened the terminal for two days was 47 days ago, it said.

The body added it has a list of thousands of Palestinians who are in need of travelling abroad for different purposes, mainly medical treatment, business and education.

It is the first time Egypt has reopened Rafah crossing since an Egyptian court ruled that the Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, and its armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, are terrorist groups.

Rafah crossing is the main point that links the Gaza Strip with the outside world. Endit
