India's French ambassador appointed as new envoy to U.S.

India on Sunday appointed its Ambassador to France Arun Kumar Singh as the country's new envoy to the United States.

A career diplomat, Singh is expected to take up his assignment shortly, according to a statement issued by the Indian government.

The post has been lying vacant since Singh's predecessor S. Jaishankar was appointed India's Foreign Secretary in January this year.

Singh had earlier served as India's ambassador to Israel, besides working at Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran division in the External Affairs Ministry. Endi
