1st LD: Passenger plane skids off runway during landing at southern Indian airport

Xinhua, March 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

A passenger aircraft of India's private airliner SpiceJet, with 75 people on board, skidded off the runway during landing in heavy rains at Hubli airport in the southern state of Karnataka late Sunday evening, a senior aviation official said.

"The incident happened when the pilot lost control of the flight while landing it in heavy rains. The plane's tyres were deflated in the mishap. However, all those on board have escaped unhurt," he said, on condition of anonymity.

The Hubli airport does not have an advanced instrument landing system, the official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added. Endi
