Spain's Marin wins women's singles title at All England

Xinhua, March 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spain's Carolina Marin fought back from one game down to defeat India's Saina Nehwal to win the women's singles title at the All England badminton championships here on Sunday.

The sixth seed, a surprise winner at last year's world championships, dropped 16-21 in the first game to third-seeded Nehwal, but made a strong comeback afterwards, winning 21-14 and 21-7 for her first title at the world's oldest badminton tournament.

In the mixed doubles final earlier, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia's hope of winning a fourth successive title was dashed by Chinese duo Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei 21-10, 21-10.

Zhang and Zhao were twice beaten by the Indonesian pair in the last two year's finals.

China has secured the women's doubles title with fifth seeds Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang taking on teammates Bao Yixin and Tang Yuanting in the final later. Endi
