A young man was arrested Sunday morning after spending about eight hours on the roof of the Parliament, local media reported.

The 23-year-old man was arrested by local police on suspicion of criminal damage and trespassing. So far, Scotland Yard said the reason why he stayed on the roof is unknown.

Reports said the man showed up at around 2100 GMT on Saturday, and police officers, negotiators and fire police were called to the scene at 2115 GMT.

The man, wearing a grey top and black trousers, was pacing up and down between buttresses on the edge of the roof.

He was arrested at 0500 GMT Sunday morning, and was taken to a central London police station, according to reports.

It was said that the roof of the Parliament has been targeted by campaign groups who oppose an airport construction project at Heathrow, but the incident occurred last night hasn't been proved related to the protest. Endit
