One dead, several hurt in wave of explosions in Egypt

Xinhua, March 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least one person was killed and several others were injured Sunday in wave of explosions in Egypt, state media reported.

In the coastal city of Alexandria, one was killed and five others were wounded when a bomb went off in a highly populated Moustafa Kamel suburb of the city, state-run Nile TV reported.

Elsewhere in Alexandria, three citizens were wounded in another blast which took place outside a police station in northwest of the city.

Meanwhile, another bomb exploded early Sunday near the main gate of a central security camp in eastern Cairo. No causalities were reported, state-run Ahram Online reported.

A third primitive device went off outside a cell phone company in Delta city of Shebin Al-koum, leaving no injuries.

Egypt has witnessed a surge of bombings after the military ousted former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

The Islamists have vowed to take revenge on the ensuing security crackdown on Morsi's supporters which has left nearly 1,000 people killed and thousands facing trials.

The anti-security attacks, which were launched mainly in Sinai Peninsula, have crept into the capital and other cities, in which hundreds of police and army personnel have been killed.

The bombings which mostly targeted the security forces premises have also killed dozens of civilians.

The al-Qaida-inspired Ansar Beit al-Maqdis group in Sinai, an Egyptian affiliate of the Islamic State, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks. Endit
