1st LD: Clash in jail in northern Afghan province wounds 16

Sixteen people were injured and five others captured by detainees as clash erupted between prisoners and warders in a prison in Jauzjan provincial capital Shiberghan 390 km north of Kabul on Sunday, provincial police chief, Faqir Mohammad Jauzjani said.

"The clash erupted at 09:00 a.m. local time in Shiberghan central jail between prisoners and warders and so far 10 detainees and six police have been injured," Jauzjani told reporters here.

The prisoners have also captured five employees of the jail as hostages, the official added.

However, he did not reveal the reason for the riot, saying investigation has been initiated. Endi
