At least 74 teams will play at the Standard Chartered Trophy 2015 football tournament in Vietnam to represent Vietnam for the global finals in Liverpool in May, local Vietnam News (VNS) daily reported Saturday.
Accordingly, 14 teams from the North will compete in capital Hanoi starting on Sunday while more than 60 teams from the South will play here six days later.
The five-a-side teams will be divided in groups and compete in a round robin format following futsal regulations. The top two teams will advance to the knock-out round. The winners from the North and the South will then meet in the final in HCM City on March 15.
Vietnam's winners will get a bye to take part in the global finals at Anfield on May 6-9, as they are defending champions. In England, they will face nine squads who qualified from their domestic and regional qualifying rounds.
The Standard Chartered Trophy is an annual football tournament held since 2012 by the Standard Chartered Bank which is also the main sponsor of the Liverpool Football Club. Participating countries hold their own qualifying round to select the best team as their representative to play in the global finals in Anfield, Liverpool. Endi
