French President Hollande to vist Cuba

Xinhua, March 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

French President Francois Hollande's visit to Cuba, the first of such visit by French head of state, is a sign to mark the change in Cuba's diplomatic and economic policies, a government official said on Friday.

"France have strongly been involved, in recent years, on European Union and Cuba reconciliation," Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said.

Earlier this week, Hollande's office announced the Socialist leader's visit to Cuba on May 11.

The scheduled state visit came after French top diplomat Laurent Fabius flew to Cuba last year in abid to improve ties between France and Havana. He was the first French foreign minister to travel to Cuba in 30 years.

France and its European neighbors suspended partnership links with Cuba in 2003 but resumed relations five years later. Enditem
