German benchmark DAX index hits new record high

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Thursday continued to rally and closed above 11,500 ponits.

The European Central Bank (ECB) held the monthly monetary policy meeting in Cyprus on Thursday. ECB President Mario Draghi announced after the meeting that the Quantitative Easing program will start next Monday.

The rally at the exchange continued largely due to the annoucement by Draghi, according to analysts. The blue-chip index added 113.63 points, or 1 percent, and closed at 11,504.01 points, a new record high.

The rally drove 27 out of the 30 DAX member shares up with adidas AG taking the lead with a 3.43 percent increase. Infineon Technologies AG, a semiconductor and system producer, advanced by 2.43 percent. ThyssenKrupp AG rose by 2.32 percent. The utilities company RWE AG St gained 1.96 percent and HeidelbergCement AG went up by 1.77 percent.

Henkel AG & Co. KGaA Vz, a laundry and home care company, dropped the most by 0.85 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG lost 0.54 percent and Allianz SE slipped slightly by 0.2 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.78 billion euros (around 4.21 billion U.S. dollars ). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 354.56 million euros (around 394.83 million U.S. dollars). Endit
