Cyclists gear up for shorter version of Cape Town Cycle Tour

Xinhua, March 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cyclists from Namibia and far afield are gearing up to participate in one of the largest timed cycling event in the world, the Cape Town Cycle Tour, formerly Cape Argus Cycle Tour scheduled to take place on Sunday.

The Cape Town Cycle Tour takes place every year and this is the 38th year the event is taking place.

A total of 35,000 cyclists are expected to line up to ride the 109 km route, but unfortunately due to the fires raging on the South Peninsula, the 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour has been shortened to a 47km circular route.

Speaking to some of the Namibian representatives from the SBS Trucking Cycling Team that is set to participate in the tour, the captain of the SBS Cycling Team, Claus Beukes, said, he expects the riders to participate well and also try and improve on their previous times achieved in the previous meetings.

The SBS team from Namibia departed Thursday morning and according to Beukes, his cycling team consists of eight cyclists, some of whom are well-known in Namibia's cycling circles and also recently took part in the Cycle Challenge Road Race in Windhoek over last weekend. Endi
