Tokyo stocks open lower on profit-taking

Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower in early trading Thursday on profit-taking after recent gains.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 46.26 points, or 0.25 percent, from Wednesday to 18,657.34.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 0.60 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,516.41.

Major decliners included glass and ceramics, rubber and metal product issues. Endi
