Chinese police bust Internet gambling gang

Xinhua, March 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese police have busted a cross-border gang suspected of organizing Internet gambling in central China's Hunan Province, local authorities said Monday.

According to police, 19 have been put under criminal detention for opening casinos and another eight were approved for arrest in a two-month crackdown last year, according to the provincial public security department at a press conference.

About 200 million yuan (32.5 million U.S. dollars) from 1,000 accounts across the country involved in gambling were frozen, according to the police.

The "Shenbo Sun City" website, whose key data servers were based overseas, made a profit of 1.4 billion yuan between May 20, 2013 and Oct. 26, 2014, said Zhou Yang, a police officer involved in the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing. Endit
