Tokyo stocks end slightly higher on pension fund hopes

Tokyo stocks moved 0.15 percent higher to a fresh 15-year high Monday as investor sentiment was lifted by hopes that Japan's pension fund buying would continue to support the stocks market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 28.94 points from Friday at 18,826.88, its highest close since April 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 1.12 points, or 0.07 percent, higher at 1,524.97.

Major gainers included information and communication, service and pharmaceutical issues.

The turnover was 2,334.10 billion yen (about 19.47 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
