Irish PM's St. Patrick's mission to U.S. focuses on investment, trade

Xinhua, February 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny will travel to the United States as part of the annual St. Patrick's ministerial investment and trade missions, the government press office said on Friday.

Kenny will have a series of high-level political engagements, including meetings with U.S. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, as part of his St. Patrick's Day events in Washington.

He will use these opportunities to celebrate the strength of Irish-US relations, to highlight Ireland's ongoing economic recovery, and to continue to advocate for immigration reform to assist the many thousands of undocumented Irish in the United States.

While in Washington, and throughout his time in the United States, the Irish prime minister will also participate in a series of business engagements, including at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, to highlight the attractiveness of Ireland as a location for enterprise, investment, innovation and tourism. He will also help to promote Irish firms, both located in, and exporting to, the United States.

As part of yearly exodus, 27 other senior and junior Irish ministers will travel abroad over St Patrick's week.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated every year on March 17, honoring the Irish patron saint, St. Patrick. The celebrations are largely Irish culture themed and typically consist of wearing green, parades, and drinking. Enditem
