Obama to host European Council president on March 9

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama will meet with European Council President Donald Tusk next month at the White House over issues like Ukraine, trade negotiations and combating violent extremism, the White House said on Friday.

Economic growth, energy security, climate and terrorism will also dominate the talks slated for March 9, spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

A former Polish prime minister, Tusk assumed the presidency of the European Council, commonly known as president of the European Union (EU), on Dec. 1, 2014.

"President Tusk's visit underscores the importance of U.S.-EU cooperation and the centrality of the Transatlantic relationship to international stability and prosperity," Earnest said. Endite
