De Boer stays on as Ajax coach

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Frank de Boer will remain as Ajax coach for another season, the 44-year-old former Dutch international confirmed the decision on Friday in Amsterdam.

De Boer has a contract until 2017 at Ajax, but always told he was ready for a new challenge if an interesting offer from a club in the top European leagues would arrive. On the other hand he always said to be happy at Ajax and didn't mind to stay longer in Amsterdam.

"Now it is time to provide clarity," De Boer explained. "If another club now rings the bell at Ajax or my agent, I will not open the door. I hope this clarity also gives a certain rest."

"I still feel a certain chemistry with the players," De Boer added. "The boys are eager and want to be the best."

De Boer started as Ajax coach in December 2010 and captured four consecutive league titles and one Dutch Super Cup. This season he will probably miss the championship with league leaders PSV having a 14-point lead.

On Thursday, Ajax qualified for the last 16 of the Europa League by beating Legia Warsaw 3-0 in Poland after a 1-0 win at home. Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk from Ukraine are their next opponents. Endi
