Slovak car exports to Russia drop 21 pct in 2014

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

While automobile exports from Slovakia to the rest of Europe have been increasing, exports beyond Europe dropped by 6.4 percent between January and November 2014, recent data from the Slovak central bank (NBS) revealed.

The most considerable export reductions were recorded in the Russian market, which fell by approximately 21 percent. Exports to Ukraine went down by almost 84 percent.

"Slovakia lost its trade share in China last year, mainly in the field of more luxurious automobiles produced in Slovakia, exports for which dropped by more than one quarter," stressed NBS.

According to the Slovak Automotive Industry Association, more than 970,000 automobiles were produced in Slovakia in 2014.

Slovakia has maintained its leading global position in terms of the number of cars produced per thousand inhabitants over the past couple of years. In 2014, the figure stood at 179 vehicles per thousand people, which exceeded the results of other countries by dozens of cars per thousand. Endit
