Kenyan police arrested 11 aliens from Somalia who sneaked into the country on Thursday night in the northern border town of Garissa.
Garissa County divisional police commander Benjamin Ongombe confirmed the arrests on Friday, saying the aliens were arrested along Fafi-Garissa road.
"They were traveling in a Probox car at night and were using the cut lines to avoid police arrest, but fortunately our officers were tipped by members of the public," Ongombe said. "The driver was ordered to stop but ignored and drove on, something that prompted the officers to shoot at the left tyre of the vehicle."
The police commander said even after deflecting the tyre, they still drove for 2 kilometers before finally stopping. He said the driver and two other aliens escaped on foot and disappeared in the nearby thicket.
Eleven others, including three facilitators, were however arrested and taken to Garissa police station where they were locked awaiting to be arraigned in court.
Ongombe said they have launched investigations to identify where the aliens were coming from and how they managed to travel that far without being arrested. Endi
