Sri Lanka to strengthen ties in key sectors with China

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sri Lankan government aims to strengthen its ties in key sectors with China when President Maithripala Sirisena pays a visit to Beijing next month, a government minister said here on Friday.

Sirisena is expected to leave for China on March 26, and it will be his second official overseas tour after he was voted to victory in last month's presidential elections.

The president will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and other government officials during his visit, Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith Perera told Xinhua.

"Sri Lanka has always shared an extremely good relationship with China. President Sirisena's visit will further strengthen the close bond shared between the two countries and also improve the close ties we share in so many sectors," Perera said.

Perera added that Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera who is currently on an official visit to China have had fruitful discussions there.

Samaraweera will return back to the island on Saturday. Endi
