South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Friday named National Intelligence Service (NIS) Chief Lee Byung-ki as new presidential chief of staff, the presidential office said.

Lee, 69, former South Korean ambassador to Japan, was nominated as the spy agency chief in June 2014.

Former chief of staff Kim Ki-choon reportedly submitted his resignation to President Park about 10 days ago. Kim hasn't gone to the office for two to three days.

President Park named former deputy head of the NIS Lee Byung-ho as new chief of the intelligence agency.

The president also nominated new presidential press secretary as well as three special advisors for political affairs. Endi
