Tokyo shares open higher on weaker yen, better industry data

Tokyo shares opened higher with the Nikkei index hit again a fresh nearly 15-year high Friday on a weaker yen and a stronger-than-expected industrial output in January.

At 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 59.47 points, or 0.32 percent, from Thursday to 18,845.26, briefly hitting 18,855.85, its highest intraday level since April 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 5.30 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,526. 98. Endi
