Japan's consumer prices up for 20th straight month in January

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Japan's consumer prices were up 2.2 percent on year in January, marking the 20th consecutive monthly growth, the Japanese Internal Affairs Ministry said Friday.

The core consumer price index excluding volatile fresh food prices stood at 102.6 against the 2010 base of 100, said the ministry.

Japan is trying to beat its prolonged deflation and aims at achieving a 2-percent-point inflation goal in the fiscal 2015 starting April 1.

According to Japan's central bank, the consumption tax hike last April has pushed the inflation rate up by about 2 percentage points but it targets to raise the rate to 2 percent excluding the effect of the tax hike. Endi
