Federer, Djokovic in semi-finals, Murray out at Dubai open

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

The ATP world's number one Novak Djokovic defeated here on Thursday late evening Marsel Ilhan from Turkey clearly 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-finals at Dubai duty free tennis championships, while Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer needed only one set 6-1 against Frenchman Richard Gasquet who retired before the second set started.

The surprise of the day, however, was Andy Murray's defeat against 18-year-old Croatian Borna Coric 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Englishman Murray, who reached the Australian Open final at the beginning of the month, had 55 unforced errors and only 15 winners against the Croatian teen.

Djokovic had an easy 49-minutes match and scored six aces against Ilhan as the Turk did 37 unforced errors, especially in his first serves and when playing long line. "Djoker" as the Serbian superstar is called by his fans, said "the conditions in Dubai are very fast, so scoring the first service well and moving quickly to the net is key to winning".

He will face at his 8th semi-final in Dubai Thomas Berdych on Friday. His arch rival Federer will play against Coric. Endite
