Latvia might join OECD in spring 2016: Foreign Ministry

Latvia might join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in the spring of 2016, Latvian Foreign Ministry state secretary Andrejs Pildegovics said Thursday.

Pildegovics said talks on Latvia's accession to the OECD were still ongoing and that they were likely to last until the end of this year.

"By joining the OECD, we will be able to better assess our weaknesses and to gain access to a more complete coordination system, which will enable the parliament to work out the best modernization solutions for our country," he added.

Earlier this week, the OECD released its first economic survey of Latvia, appreciating the Baltic country's successful recovery from the global economic crisis, as well as recommending further steps be taken to reduce inequality, limit economic volatility and ensure convergence with more developed economies.
