Van transporting illegal immigrants crashes in Serbia, 40 injured

A group of illegal immigrants was injured in a car accident that took place in the morning hours of Tuesday near the southern Serbian town of Leskovac, police stated.
The accident took place on Tuesday morning on the main trans-national highway when a van carrying 40 people, mostly from Syria, Bangladesh, and Nigeria, slid of the road near the village of Donje Krajince for undetermined reasons.
The completely smashed vehicle ended up in a field by the side of the road, surrounded by travel bags and personal belongings of the injured passengers.
At a press conference held at a hospital in Nis, medical director Zoran Radovanovic announced that two passengers have life threatening injuries and have been hooked up to artificial life support.
According to the police, the driver of the van absconded the scene of the accident, and police are leading an investigation to determine his identity, as well as other facts connected with the accident.
The injured migrants were mostly transported to the hospital in Leskovac and Nis to receive medical attention. Endit
