Truck bombing rocks Afghan capital, kills attacker

Xinhua, February 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

A suicide bomber was killed after he set off a truck bomb near a security checkpoint in the outskirts of Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday morning, police said.

"A truck was running towards the city center in the northern part of Kabul. The police forces tried to stop the vehicle for check up but the driver ignored the signal and detonated the explosive-packed vehicle, killing himself on the spot," Kabul police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai told local media.

No police or civilian were hurt in the blast which occurred at around 7:00 a.m. local time, the spokesman said.

The potential target of the attack remained unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility so far.

The Taliban has intensified attacks with a string of bombings and armed attacks over the past couple of months as the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) has taken the full security charges from NATO-led troops since Jan. 1 this year. Endi
