10 killed as commercial building set ablaze in Abu Dhabi

A massive fire broke out in an illegal workers' compound in Abu Dhabi on Friday morning, leaving ten people dead and eight injured, local media reported on Saturday.

The blaze started in a two-level commercial building of a tyre dealer on Friday morning whereas warehouse space was being used for illegal accommodation.

Abu Dhabi police said that the building owner has been taken into custody and that an arrest warrant for other suspects has been issued, including for the supervisor of the building who is still at large, Gulf news reported.

The UAE Ministry of Interior has warned owners of residential and commercial buildings of any property misuse. But Fire incidents across the country in illegal workers compounds and misused residential districts still happened frequently. Endit
