Ancelotti in no hurry to sign new contract

Xinhua, February 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Saturday that he didn't believe his chances of extending his contract depend on winning any titles this season.

Speaking on the eve of his side's visit to play Elche, which will be his 100th game in charge since replacing Jose Mourinho in the summer of 2013, Ancelotti was asked about recent rumors that he could be forced out of the club unless Real Madrid won either the BBVA Primera League or the Champions League this season.

Ancelotti has already taken Madrid to the King's Cup, the Champions League, the European Supercup and the World Club Championship during his time in charge and until a poor start to 2015, most of the talk was of the club offering him an extension to his current deal, which runs out in June 2016.

"I don't think my renewal depends on whether we win a trophy or not," said Ancelotti, who nevertheless showed himself willing to extend his time with Madrid

"The end of the season will be a good time to talk about it, but it's not a problem if it doesn't happen; my contract runs until June 2016," commented the coach, who said he didn't feel under any special pressure.

"My objective here is always to win. Since the day I arrived I knew it was about winning. In every team I've taken charge of it has been about winning trophies," explained the Italian.

Ancelotti had good news for Real Madrid fans about the fitness of midfielder Luka Modric, who returned to full training this week after three months out injured.

"He's feeling good and is very positive. On Thursday he began training with the rest of the squad and next week he will have his first full session. Hopefully we'll be able to get him back playing in March," confirmed the Real Madrid coach. Endi
