Albania to slash public debt drastically by 2017

Xinhua, February 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Albania planned to cut its public debt to 65.5 percent of its GDP by 2017 so as to achieve the economic growth goals set by the government, the minister of finance said here at a press conference on Thursday.

Shkelqim Cani said the Ministry of Finance is trying to reduce the public debt by fighting fiscal evasion, reforming the way public funds are used and undertaking important tax reforms

The government may achieve these goals by taking consideration of the fiscal impact the reform in energy system will have until 2017, said the minister.

Cani noted the economic growth would be positively affected by the improvement of the business climate, among other measures. Enditem
