Nikkei ends 0.32 percent higher in morning on Japan optimism

Tokyo stocks ended 0.32 percent higher in the morning session of Friday on optimism toward Japan' s economic recovery.

The 225-issue Nikkei index was up 58.38 points, from Thursday to 18,323.17. It briefly climbed as high as 18,360.92, the highest intraday level since May 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 2.36 points, or 0.16 percent, to 1,497. 29.

Major gainers included pulp and paper, mining and metal product issues. Endi
