Germany's benchmark DAX index closes slightly up

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Wednesday closed slightly up by 0.6 percent.

Although it is unclear whether the European Union creditors will accept the credit extension proposal from Greece, investors showed reserved optimism, according to analysts. The blue-chip index closed at 10,961 points.

K+S Aktiengesellschaft, which dropped by 1.66 percent on Tuesday, was the top riser with a 3.3 percent increase. Infineon Technologies AG, a semiconductor producer, rose by 2.66 percent. Continental AG advanced by 2.31 percent. Volkswagen AG Vz climbed by 2.26 percent. HeidelbergCement AG went up by 2.03 percent.

Deutsche Telekom AG dropped by 1.02 percent. The two utilities company E.ON SE and RWE AG St, which gained 1 percent and 0.92 percent on Tuesday, slipped by 0.99 percent and 0.94 percent, respectively. Merck KGaA, a pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company, which went up by 0.56 percent on Tuesday, lost 0.69 percent. Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, a health care group that climbed by 0.64 percent on Tuesday, plunged by 0.66 percent.

The turnover stood at 2.89 billion euros (3.29 billion U.S. dollars). Bayer AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 218.63 million euros. ( 1 euro = 1.14 U.S. dollars) Enditem
