Indian coastal guards intercept Russian vessel off Mumbai coast

Xinhua, February 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian coastal guards have intercepted a Russian vessel off the coast of Mumbai, a senior official said Wednesday.

"The Coast Guard intercepted Russian vessel MV Sevastopol late Tuesday evening as it was trying to flee Indian waters to avoid legal proceedings in this country," he said, on condition of anonymity.

In fact, the vessel was under arrest following an order by the High Court in the southern city of Chennai over a commercial dispute and trying to flee Indian waters to avoid judicial proceedings.

"However, it has been brought back to the shores after a Coast Guard aircraft spotted it off Mumbai coast and forced it to abandon plans to escape," the official added. Endi
