Singapore stocks close 0.58 pct higher

Singapore stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 19. 75 points, or 0.58 percent, to close at 3,435.66.

A total of 642.4 million shares changed hands with turnover of 779.5 million Singapore dollars (574.0 million U.S. dollars).

Gainers outnumbered decliners 226 to 128, while 582 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 11.25 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 3, 415.91 on Tuesday.

The stock market traded only half a day today on the eve of Chinese New Year. The market reopens on Feb. 23. Endi
