1st LD: Ukraine says insurgents seize soldiers, part of flashpoint town

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said Tuesday that insurgents have seized part of the strategic town of Debaltseve in the restive east and street fighting was still going on.

The ministry said a group of government military personnel have been held captive in the flashpoint town, but it dismissed reports of mass capture.

Shortly earlier, the independence-seeking insurgents claimed that they had gained control of Debaltseve, an important transportation hub, and urged Ukrainian troops to surrender. Endi
