10 killed in bus accident in India

Xinhua, February 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

A private bus with around 55 to 60 passengers on board plunged into a gorge in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh Monday night, killing at least 10 and injuring 33 others, said police Tuesday.

The bus was running at Machaliya Ghat hillock in Dhar district from Indore to Galiakot in Rajasthan, western India, when it plunged into a 150 feet deep gorge.

The toll is feared to be rising as rescuers are looking for more bodies and injured in the jungle below the hills.

Primary police investigations suggested that the bus plunged into the gorge after losing balance on the hilly road in Rajgarh area of Dhar, around 125 km from Indore city.

Road accidents kill at least 120,000 people each year in India. Endi
