Obama sends condolences to victims of Copenhagen shootings

Xinhua, February 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday offered condolences for the victims of the shootings in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

Obama also expressed "American solidarity" with Denmark in a telephone talk with Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt on Monday, the White House said in a statement.

Shootings occurred in Copenhagen on Saturday and Sunday separately, killing two civilians and injuring five policemen.

"The two leaders agreed on the need to work together to confront attacks on freedom of expression as well as against anti-semitic violence," said the statement.

Obama also welcomed Denmark's participation this week in the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism, it added. Endi
