At least 40 suspected Islamic State (IS) militants in Libya were killed early Monday in Egyptian airstrikes in revenge for the killing of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians, state-run Nile TV reported.

Egypt carried out the air raids at the request of the Libyan government, Saqer al-Joroushi, head of the Libyan air forces, was quoted by the state TV as saying.

Joroushi said that several more airstrikes will follow. Endit
