Afghan female politician dies of injuries after bombing

Xinhua, February 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

An Afghan provincial council member has succumbed to the wounds she sustained in a bomb attack earlier this month, provincial sources said on Monday.

"Member of Nangarhar Provincial Council, Angiza Shinwari, succumbed to injuries at Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan Hospital in Afghan capital of Kabul at wee hours of Monday," Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman of the Nangarhar provincial government, told Xinhua.

Shinwari was seriously wounded and her driver killed after her vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in the provincial capital Jalalabad city on Feb. 10, in a latest string of targeted killing of officials in the war-hit country.

Four civilian bystanders were also wounded as a result of the attack.

On Sunday evening, a tribal elder Qand Agha along with five passers-by were wounded after his vehicle was attacked by a roadside bomb in northern Baghlan province.

The civilians considered to be supporting government, civilian government employees, religious leaders, tribal elders and persons involved in peace and reconciliation efforts came under attack in targeted killings.

About 10,000 civilians were killed and injured in Taliban-led insurgency and conflicts in the Central Asian country in 2014, according to the U.N. mission officials.

The officials blamed the attacks of Taliban insurgents and other armed groups for vast majority of the civilian deaths and injuries. Endi
