Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon will pay a visit to India this week, in what is seen as a diplomatic breakthrough between the two countries, local media reported on Monday.
Ya'alon will attend the "Aero India 2015" air show in the southern city Bangalore this week before holding meeting with Indian officials in Delhi.
He will inaugurate the Israeli Pavilion at the "Aero India" to showcase Israeli arms products with the presence of 15 Israeli companies and hundreds of representatives. The minister will lead a delegation including Director General of Minister of Defense Dan Harel and CEOs of Israeli defense companies, said The Hindu newspaper.
Though bilateral cooperation has been deepened especially in defense field, this is the first time for an Israeli defense minister to visit India since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1991, said The Hindu.
India and Israel have been warming up their relations since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu last September in New York. India has also bought Israeli-made airborne early warning and control aircraft AWACs.
India in the past had supported the Palestinian cause with other Non-aligned Movement countries. Endi
