Sudan will start its presidential and parliamentary elections on April 13, according to the National Election Commission (NEC) on Sunday.
"The poll process will last for three days to avail the opportunity for the large number of voters to cast their votes," said NEC Chairman Muhktar al-Asam at a press conference.
The counting will begin on April 16 and the final results will be announced on April 27, al-Asam said, adding that the number of the ballot cards ranges between 80 and 85 million.
He noted that representatives of the political parties have the right to stay with the ballot boxes during the polling and counting, adding that each party also has the right to run its electoral campaign without any intervention from the NEC.
Some Sudanese opposition parties previously demanded the elections be delayed and a transitional government formed to resolve what they said a crisis in the country.
In 2010, the ruling National Congress Party led by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir won the first multi-party elections in almost 24 years. Endit
