1st LD: Shelling reported in eastern Ukraine

Xinhua, February 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Russia's TASS news agency reported Friday that Ukrainian troops continued shelling in the restive east, despite a ceasefire agreement announced Thursday.

Citing the defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, the report said a kindergarten was attacked on Friday and seven people, including three children, were killed in shelling attacks in the region over the past 24 hours.

The figures are yet to be corroborated.

On Thursday, leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France sealed a ceasefire deal in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, which calls for a cessation of violence in eastern Ukraine from Feb. 15.

The agreement has offered a glimmer of hope for putting an end to the Ukraine crisis, yet it remains to be seen whether the deal will hold. A previous one reached in Minsk failed to make a difference. Endi
