China welcomes adoption of UN resolution to cut off funding to terrorism

Xinhua, February 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

China welcomes the UN Security Council's unanimous adoption of Resolution 2199 which is aimed at cutting off funding to terrorism, a Chinese envoy to the UN said Thursday.

This resolution is "of great significance for the coordination of the international community's fight against terrorism" and for supporting related countries' anti-terrorism efforts, said Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the UN after the resolution's adoption.

"China opposes all forms of terrorism. We oppose double-standards in combating terrorism. We oppose linking terrorism with specific religions and ethnicities," he said.

He urged the international community to comprehensively and fully implement the resolution and previous related resolutions and jointly contain and combat terrorism.

"China calls on the international community to attach greater importance to the use of the Internet by terrorist organizations," he said.

The international community should enhance cooperation, implement policies in an integrated manner and cut all the channels through which terrorist organizations use the Internet to broadcast terrorist videos, spread extreme ideologies, recruit personnel, mobilize funds, as well as instigate, plan and carry out terrorist activities, Liu added.

The UN Security Council on Thursday adopted a resolution to cut funding sources to the extremists groups of Islamic State (IS) and Al-Nusrah Front (ANF), by efficiently choking off their illegal earnings from oil trading, trafficking of antiquities and ransom payments. Endi
